A panel of coding experts from the American Medical Association (AMA), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), McKesson and NextGxDx will discuss progress in implementing the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA) of 2014 during PMC's next policy committee meeting.
Under the terms of PAMA, CMS can rely on a solution that utilizes AMA's Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes or alternative coding systems for molecular diagnostics to implement the law. A solution that is too vague may make it difficult for the agency to identify appropriate prices for the most unique molecular technologies, while a solution that is too granular may be confusing and burdensome to implement. IT may play a role in identifying the most appropriate approach.
During the meeting, the expert panelists will discuss and debate the available options before taking questions from the audience.
